Conrad, Cletus J.
Cletus J. Conrad, 88, of Hiawatha, died Monday, August 23, 2010, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab, Cedar Rapids. Memorial mass: 11 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, by the Rev. Neil Manternach and the Rev. LaVerne Schueller. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post No. 727. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Cletus donated his body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Peter C. (Judy Davis) Conrad; five daughters, Anne Conrad Duffy, Nicolette J. (Rocky) Woods, Mary Kathleen “Kayt” (Donald Klingenberger) Conrad, Martina C. (Larry Price) Conrad and Aimee J. (Ronald Dubreuil) Conrad; a brother, Donald (Mary) Conrad; two sisters, Elizabeth Hamerle and Margaret Ann Talbert; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Megan) Duffy, Brenna Woods, Sophia Klingenberger, LiZhong Dubreuil and Allison Davis; and three great-grandchildren, Alec, Aubree and Bryce.
Cletus was born March 7, 1922, in Tallyrand, Iowa, the son of Leo and Mamie (Buch) Conrad. On July 24, 1954, he married Mary McEowen at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Cletus worked as a test technician at Rockwell Collins for over 30 years. He was a proud veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict and readily volunteered his time and talents to his family, his church and his community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Rosalee; and a granddaughter, Sarah Anne.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Sarah Anne Woods Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Kirkwood Community College Foundation, 6301 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52406, or charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Nursing & Rehab, Hospice of Mercy and Milestones for the considerate care they provided Cletus.
