Jan Christine Langfitt, 58, of Marion, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following a long illness. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Private family inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, John; mother, Joan Sissel of Stockton, Iowa; three children, Adam (Dimple) Langfitt of Sterling, Va., Cara Langfitt of Festus, Mo., and Colin Langfitt of Republic, Mo.; and siblings, Michael (Barbara) Sissel of Walcott, Patrick (Paula) Sissel of Shepherdsville, Ky., Kurt Sissel of Stockton and Daniel (Mary) Sissel of Excelsior, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her father, Warren Sissel.
Jan was born Sept. 17, 1955, in Muscatine. She graduated from Muscatine High School and St. Luke's School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. Jan married John Langfitt on Nov. 6, 1976, in Blue Grass, Iowa. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids and later as a school nurse at Starry Elementary in Marion.
Jan was an active volunteer for the Marion Independent School District.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marion High School Band Program in Jan's memory.
The family wishes to extend its thanks to the staff and volunteers at Unity Point Hospice, Willow Gardens Care Center and Milestones Adult Day Health Center for Jan's care.
