Dorothy Elaine Moorehead, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 805 Business Highway 151 W, First Avenue, Walford, IA 52321. A luncheon will follow. Family will accept visitors one hour before the service.
Survivors include her children, Dale (Mary) Moorehead of Sanger, Texas, Cecil Moorehead of Donithan, Mo., retired Staff Sgt. Jolene Trimble of Ely, Lora (George) Horak of Olin, Julie Moorehead of Ely, Loreen (Harvey) Gifford of Omaha, Neb., and Kelly Noureddine; and brothers, Bill (Karadene) Burns of Diamond, Mo., and Mike Burns of Blackduck, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlis Moorehead; her parents; two infant brothers; and one sister, Loretta Koch.
Dorothy was born May 21, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Virgil G. Burns and Agnes Laura (Martin) Burns. Dorothy married Harlis Moorehead on Feb. 10, 1956, in St. Joseph, Mo.
Dorothy was the town librarian for Norway and Ely for many years. She enjoyed crocheting lap blankets for the VA Health Care System in Iowa City, making baby blankets for family and friends, and of course, reading.
