At the age of 66, Roger Lee Moorman of Lamont, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, after a courageous one-year battle with cancer at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Roger Lee Moorman was born May 30, 1950, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Harold and Velva (Pohlman) Moorman. He attended West Delaware High School and graduated with the class of 1968. Roger was married to Sandra Neumann on Aug. 23, 1975, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this marriage, five children were born. Roger worked at Midland Forge in Cedar Rapids for 35 years before the plant was closed in 2009.
Playing cards, traveling and going to his children and grandchildren's sporting events were the enjoyments of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Lamont; his children, Erin (Kevin Fay) Moorman, Jason Moorman, Ashley (Mike) Fields and Cayla (Nathan Devick) Moorman, all of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Adisen Moorman, Katlyn Vagher, Ella Moorman, Madelynn Moorman and Leightyn Fields; two brothers, Daryl (Sandra) Moorman of Opelika, Ala., and Bruce Moorman of Manchester; one sister, Georgia (Robin) Jones of Edgewood; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a newborn son, Eric Moorman; a sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Charles Irons; and in-laws, Carl and Alice Neumann.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at Mercy Hall Perrine Cancer Center, Hall Radiation and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their compassionate care.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 18, at Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church and his funeral services will follow immediately at 7 p.m.
