What started as a joke turned out to be a nice donation for the American Cancer Society.
"I think he's probably up there laughing at me, for what I did, he would like that yeah," Jeff Lenhart said.
In July, Jeff lost his good friend, Dave Schultz to cancer. Since then, he's been on a mission to help find a cure.
So when the snow fell, he got creative. He filled a jar with snow and let the Ebay bidding begin.
"One lady e-mailed the ebay link to relatives in Denmark. They were going to send it that way," Lenhart said.
First it was just a few cents here and there. Then local businesses started matching bids and making donations. When the auction ended Wednesday morning, Cindy Willenborg had the highest bid of $56.
"It was just something that caught my eye. The American Cancer Society in general is very near and dear to my heart," Willenborg said.
With all the mounds of snow still sitting here in eastern Iowa, who would want to buy snow. But Willenborg has an idea.
"I'll probably send it to my sister in law in Arizona, she got kids who always want to go sleigh riding. Well this is probably the best they are going to get," she said.
Willenborg's the happy owner of a jar of snow, and with all the donations, Lenhart is proud to send a $421 check to the American Cancer Society.
Lenhart says he will take the check to Des Moines February 24th. Lawmakers designated that day as American Cancer Society of Iowa Day.
