Macauley, Kyle
Sensitive, caring, thoughtful, humorous, and dedicated to the well-being of others, 23-year-old Kyle Macauley found eternal peace Oct. 10, 2012.
Kyle was born to Jerry and Julie Macauley in Omaha, Neb., on Nov. 14, 1988. After the family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1992, Kyle graduated from Jefferson High School in 2007 and went on to attend the University of Iowa, Kirkwood Community College, and Mount Mercy University.
Kyle enjoyed numerous activities and was especially happy when he was cooking Asian food. He learned this skill while working for Pei's Mandarin China Bistro for the last three years. Kyle loved to trout fish with his father, joke with his sister, and was always doing thoughtful things for his mother. Kyle enjoyed reading about health and mankind and always had a political perspective. He enjoyed soccer and music, playing the guitar, mandolin, and drums. Visiting relatives in Boston, Mass., and Traer, Iowa provided many happy memories. Kyle also volunteered as a Big Brother for Big Brothers and Sisters. In daily life, Kyle was a big brother and a dependable friend to almost everyone he met.
Kyle was most happy when he was helping others who were less fortunate and had a calming way to make others feel good. Lately, Kyle became a dedicated caretaker for a new friend, an old dog named BJ.
Kyle is survived by his father, Jerry (Roberta Abernathy); mother Julie, (Terry Steinbach); and sister, Jessica (friend Luke Salzwedel).
Kyle is also survived by paternal uncle (also Godfather), Tony; aunts, Katie Dion (Bob) and Lynn Currul (Steve); maternal grandparents, Joe and Janice Kopriva; uncles, Curt (Barb), Joey (Sarah), Todd, Danny and Jay; and aunt (also Godmother), Denise Danker (Dave).
Kyle's numerous cousins and special friends, Dave and Tom Pei, will miss his gentle spirit, attentiveness, and special sense of humor.
Kyle was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chester and Agnes Macauley; and paternal aunt, Anne.
Memorials should be directed to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids & East Central Iowa, 3150 E Ave. NW, Suite 103, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.
The family will greet friends between 4 and 8 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, 3100 F Ave. NW. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday by the Rev. Tom Capo at Peoples Church, 4980 Gordon Ave. NW, where friends may visit after 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Services will be followed by a reception.
