Letter: Trump has brought shame upon our country

One year into the Trump presidency, I hope nobody is shocked.
Going into the election, we knew he was a childish, sexist, racist, narcissistic, unfocused bully who would surrender the world leadership position of the United States. I am saddened he has brought such shame upon our country and has offended so many people and leaders worldwide.
We need to not lose hope and realize that this country will persevere long after narrow-minded demagogues like Trump are out of office.
We must work hard to ensure that only people worthy of our respect will represent us in elected office. I ask everyone to take seriously the debt owed to those who came before us and the type of country we wish to pass onto our grandchildren.
Let's work together to bring the United States back to a position of world leadership which is based on respect for all.
