Dec. 6, 2010 12:15 pm
Fire investigators don't expect to learn what caused a weekend fire in Keota for several days.
Fire Chief Mike Detweiler says the fire was burning in the southeast corner of the lumber yard in Keota when they arrived.
Crews won't starting cleaning up the debris until fire investigators and insurance agents are done at the scene.
An early morning fire damaged and destroyed several downtown buildings in Keota, Iowa, on Saturday. Some of the buildings involved in the blaze were Westendorf Costume Emporium, Bermel Insurance Agency, Bermel Laundromat, All Around Fitness, the old meat locker, and the old lumberyard. Fire crews from North Keokuk County, Washington, Wellman, Sigourney, and Keota fought the fire. (Matt Nelson/The Gazette)
