Kevin Peter O'Brien, 63, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Graveside service: 2 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma O'Brien of Marion; stepdaughter, Stacie (Nick) Earle of Omaha, Neb.; siblings, Mike (Kathy) O'Brien of Cedar Rapids, Dan (Kathy) O'Brien of Seneca, Kan., Mary (Bob) Petersmith of Cedar Rapids and Shawn (Teresa) O'Brien and Dennis (Sheryl) O'Brien, both of Springville; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved dogs, Joey and Nikki.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorrance and Dorothy; and sister, Theresa Chapel.
Kevin was born Aug. 10, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Dorrance and Dorothy (Gaffney) O'Brien. He graduated from Washington High School in 1971. Kevin was an electrician, retiring from Esco Electric.
He was a member of IBEW Local 405. In his earlier years, he was an exceptional fast-pitch softball player. Kevin also enjoyed golfing, fishing, pheasant hunting, watching NASCAR and spending time with his family.
He was very family-oriented and had special bonds with his nieces, nephews and his dogs. Kevin was an avid Hawkeye fan, making sure he caught every Hawkeye game.
