Martin F. Osier, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Stateroom. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church, with the Rev. John R. Flaherty officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Martin Francis Osier was born Sept. 1, 1943, to Gilbert and Bethel (Lines) Osier in his grandmother's home near Marble Rock, Iowa. Marty graduated from Charles City High School in 1961. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 4 1/2 years. After his time in the service, he met the love his life, Donna Galant. They were united in marriage on June 10, 1967, in Charles City.
Marty worked at Rockwell Collins for 45 years. His grandchildren were his joy. Marty loved bowling, fishing, and cheering for the Hawkeyes. Go Hawks!
He will be forever remembered as a man of few words, a true farm boy at heart and "Mr. Fix It."
Marty was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Papa) and helpful neighbor and friend.
Marty is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna; children, Chris Osier of Iowa City, Alisa (Jami) Guthrie of Naperville, Ill., and Carmen (Gregg) Endicott and Susie (Travis) Luchtenburg, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jake and Emma Guthrie of Naperville, Ill., Johnathon and Joseph Endicott and Alice Luchtenburg, all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are sisters, Jeanette Ruegnitz of Waukon and Nancy Richard of Aredale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Osier; and nephew, Alex Ruegnitz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marty's name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
