Robert was born June 28, 1942, in Vinton to Frank and Evelyn (Robbie) Tumilty, and graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1960. He served his nation in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a member of the Legion post in Shellsburg.
On Dec. 2, 1967, he was united in marriage to Diane Castonguay in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Robert was a truck driver for 50 years and retired from Integris Metals in 2008. He was a member of Shellsburg Presbyterian Church and a lifelong resident of Shellsburg, or as Bob would say, "Mayberry."
As a "die-hard" Chicago Cubs fan he never gave up hope the team would win the World Series. He was an avid fisherman and never missed an episode of "Big Ol Fish" and later in life he very much enjoyed golfing at Wildcat Country Club. He also enjoyed time with friends at the Pearl Street Social Club and was especially proud of his role as "Grandpa Bob," enjoying time spent with grandkids and the annual trips to Adventureland.
He is survived by his children, Tracy (James) Tow of Cedar Rapids, Todd (Katie) Tumilty of Lakehurst, N.J., and Tricia (Brad) Baker of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Adam and Nick Tow, Audrey and Tyler Tumilty and Caden and Jaxon Baker and baby granddaughter Baker on the way; his sister-in-law, Pam Banke of Oelwein; and his brother-in-law, Mike (Jen) Hamman of Chicago.
In addition to his wife, Diane, he was preceded in death by his parents.
