Kathryn E. Rath, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018. Visitation will be held from
4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be held at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
Memorial donations may be made to HACAP or Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Kay Rath was born Jan. 16, 1940, to Alexander Thompson and Anne (Pickett), in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Ronald Rath in 1963. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
Kay received her education at Iowa State Teachers College (BA). She began her career in education substituting, and then taught kindergarten and first grade for many years at Hiawatha Elementary.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Francine) of Iowa City and John (Kathy) of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Evan, Megan, Andrew and Jennifer; one sister-in-law, Rosalie Thompson (Hot Springs Village, Ark.); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Kay will be greatly missed for her kindness and caring toward everyone she knew.
