He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vernetta.
Howard Eugene was born on Dec. 20, 1923, in Bassett, Neb., the son of Edgar E. and Laura M. Miller Williams. He married Vernetta Catherine Kamm on Oct. 16, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. At the age of 19, Howard entered the Army Air Corps and proudly served as a bomber mechanic during World War II. For 53 years, he was as an agent at Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1984.
Howard lived a very simple life but was resilient and enjoyed spending his time with his family, friends and walking. He was a board member of the Linn County Pheasants Forever. Since the day Vernetta passed in 2005, he has been waiting to see and meet her again, and he has now finally received his wish.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
