ROSEMARY OSTER
Cedar Rapids
On Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, Rosemary Oster took her last breath on Earth and her first breath in heaven.
Rosemary was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she lived, worked and met her husband, LeRoy Oster. Married on Dec. 4, 1954, Rosemary and LeRoy started their family in Brooklyn, later moving to North Dakota and finally Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they settled and raised their children.
Rosemary was an amazing woman who loved her family (especially her grandkids) immensely. She enjoyed being a mom and grandma above all, but found joy in her friends, playing cards, working crosswords, volunteering and reading. She got a charge out of making everyone laugh with her creative imagination and was a true jokester with a big heart. She lived to make others happy.
In earlier years, she and her husband enjoyed a bit of travel, camping at the family cabin on the Skunk River, gambling, and spending time with the grandkids ... during which many trips to Toys "R" Us were made.
Left to honor Rosemary are her four children, Kathy (Colin Cornhill), Carol (Larry Erenberger), Mike (Kari) Oster and Ken (Tracy) Oster; grandchildren, Will Thompson, Mike Thompson, Hannah Oster, Matthew T. Oster, Matthew M. Oster, Claire Cornhill, Emma Chaloner, Chiara Erenberger and Trey Erenberger; and one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Mendoza. Rosemary is also survived by her sister, Joanie Winn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; and daughter-in-law, Bobbie Jo Oster.
Per Rosemary's wishes, services will be private, and "no fuss."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy, Mercy Foundation, 701 10th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403 or St. John XXIII Parish, 8100 Roncalli Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
To all of you who knew and cared for Rosemary, we thank you for being a part of her life. She loved you, too.
