Ed is survived by his wife, Carol; brother, Glenn (Gladys) Reif of Muscatine; five stepchildren, Vickie Findlay (Layne Schwinke) of Fredericksburg, Cheryl Bogard of Stanwood, Charles M. (Jannett) Bogard of Anamosa, Carroll A. (Liz) Bogard of Victor, Idaho, and Maryanna (James) Rickner of Elk Grove, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; aunt, Sister Christine Elias of Omaha, Neb.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his two dogs, Missy and Angel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one uncle and several aunts.
Edward Charles was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Edward C. and Anne E. (Elias) Reif. He married Carol Ann Bogard on July 24, 1999, in Central City. Ed started off working as a barber at Mercy Hospital, then for Legion Lanes Bowling, then Montgomery Ward, and later in his life at Per Mar Security. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross since 1980.
Ed enjoyed many things in his life, especially checking in three or four times on Sunday evenings on his Ham Radio.
He loved children and in his pastime, he enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling. Ed's favorite sport teams to watch were the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. Fortunately, last year, Ed was able to fulfill his lifetime dream of traveling to California and also seeing his cousin for the first time in 25 years while he was there.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous, American Red Cross or Lighthouse Baptist Church in Stanwood.
