James William Heitzman, 72, died Dec. 12, 2014, at the University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie; children, Ken (Dawn) Heitzman of Marion and Karen (Tadd) Hatch of Waukee; four grandchildren, Brett, Adelynn, Mickey and Genavieve; and two sisters, Dorothy (Bob) Klein of Dubuque and Janice (Don) Lewis of Port Byron, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents.
James William Heitzman was born Oct. 22, 1942, in Dubuque, Iowa. He was the son of Clarence and Mary Schmidtt Heitzman. James worked for Qwest, McLeod Telecommunications and later for the Cedar Rapids school district. James served his country in the U.S. Navy. On Jan. 24, 1970, James and Bonnie Heck were united in marriage in Marion, Iowa. James was a member of the American Legion in Benton County and the U.S. Fleet Reserve. He enjoyed reading, being nice to people and most of all he treasured the time he was given to spend with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
The family has requested no flowers.
