Some trees can be saved

All of us are sad to see the many damaged trees having to be removed, but even worse than that is to see some cut down that could easily be trimmed and saved. Every day some of us walk on the trail around Wright Elementary School on Hollywood Blvd. NE, and it has been disheartening to see so many trees being cut down that could have been saved.

Today I asked one of the workers who had authorized this action and was told that they were hired by the school board - and there were three more they were cutting down. Many of the ones already removed were only slightly damaged.

I called and left a message at the school office on Edgewood Road, but of course, it is too late to save many of them. Is there no way that a tree expert couldn't have marked ones that could not be saved? There were 4 or 5 that did have red x's on earlier, and we could understand their being cut down (they were badly damaged), but now the trees seem to just be removed with no thought of trimming to save them.

Please be sure that when a company is hired to remove trees that there are some guidelines and not just massive destruction. Many of us have lived in this area for decades and know that the ones cut down at Wright School were 50-100 years old - and irreplaceable.
