Authorities say a Cedar Rapids man led police on a high-speed chase with his 5-year-old nephew in the vehicle on Sunday afternoon.
Kyle A. Doolin, 50, faces numerous traffic charges and child endangerment after he sped away from a Linn County Sheriff's deputy who spotted him near the intersection of Boyson Road and C Avenue NE around 1 p.m. He got away from deputies on Sunday, but was arrested at 9:20 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.
Sheriff Brian Gardner said the chase started when a deputy in an unmarked car noticed Doolin, who had two arrest warrants, driving a van. The deputy turned on his emergency lights and Doolin took off westbound on Boyson Road NE. He turned south on Council Street NE and then back east on Blairs Ferry Road NE, Gardner said.
He did not pull over for more than three miles and reached 70 mph on the busy roads, officials said.
Doolin finally stopped at his residence at 292 Northpointe Dr. NE. He ran into the apartment building and back out, and got away from the deputies, Gardner said.
According to the deputy's report, Doolin ran three stop lights during the chase. He also faces charges for reckless driving, speeding, improper use of lanes and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. No one was injured in the incident.
