Mary H. Larson, 94, of Marion died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at The Villages of Marion. There will be a celebration of Mary's life at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel where friends may register after 12:30 p.m. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her grandson, Adam (Jenny) Landis and their children, Gracen, Graeme and Gage of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Julie Landis; and a brother, A.L. Chalstrom.
Mary was born Nov. 23, 1921, in O'Brien County, Iowa, the daughter of C.J. and Mabel Fagen Chalstrom. She married Donald W. Larson. He died in 1992. Mary was a teacher for many years, teaching in Storm Lake, Spencer and the Cedar Rapids school systems. Mary graduated from Stephens College, Coe College and Buena Vista University. She did her graduate work at the University of South Dakota and the University of Iowa. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the American University Women, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, patron of the Cedar Rapids Theater and Symphony, Mercy and St. Luke's Auxiliary, the alumni group for Buena Vista University and Stephens College and the University of Iowa I-Club.
Mary lived her life to the fullest, possessing tremendous energy, optimism and good for others. She worked in support of many charities. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy, love and faith will live on.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
