Richard was born July 13, 1944, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Hugh and Cleo (Cronbaugh) Montross. Following graduation from Millersburg High School, he attended and graduated from the University of Iowa School of Business in 1966. He married Barbara Baskerville on Aug. 17, 1968, in Iowa City. He worked at Amana Refrigeration in the international sales department for 35 years and was vice president of international sales when he retired. After retiring from Amana, he worked with several small Iowa companies to help develop their international sales, eventually joining Connect-A-Dock in Atlantic, Iowa, for eight years. He retired in 2012.
In his work, Richard traveled the world, had many adventures, met many people who became friends and had wonderful stories to tell. He was a collector and had a fabulous Lone Ranger collection and an impressive Western comic book collection. His retirement plan was to read three newspapers a day because he was interested in world news and its effect on business. He was a huge fan of the UI wrestling team.
His family includes his wife, Barbara; his mother, Cleo Montross of Iowa City; sister, Irene Bender (David) of Bettendorf; brother, Dale Montross (Annette) of Dallas, Texas; nieces and nephews, Laura Thompson, Matthew Bender, Joshua Montross, Hunter Montross and Crystal Corona; sister-in-law, Jill Baskerville; and father-in-law, Weir Baskerville, both of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Montross.
His family would like to thank Dr. James Feeley, Dr. David Boysen and the staff at the Oaknoll Health Center for their care of Richard.
