Griswold's Topham runs No. 4 all-time

FORT DODGE -- The freshman from the smallest class had the fastest time.
Griswold ninth-grader Rebekah Topham won the Class 1A girls' individual title at the state cross country meet Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Golf Course.
Topham was timed in 13:59, the best time of any girl all day Saturday, and the fourth-best time in girls' state-meet history, since the distance was moved to 4,0o0 meters. She won by a healthy 32-second margin.
Pekin won its third 1A girls' title in four years, scoring 75 points. Earlham was second with 131. Council Bluffs St. Albert edged West Lyon, 78-89, for the boys' crown.
Levi Storjohann of Conrad BCLUW was the boys' champion in 15:57.
Three area girls finished in the top 10. Sammie Sproull of Jesup was fifth, Arden Betzer of Springville-Central City was sixth, Kari Fitzpatrick of Edgewood-Colesburg was ninth.
North Linn finished fifth in the girls' race.
