Letter: Why I am supporting Boulton for governor

Growing up in Iowa, I was proud to tell people that Iowa had one of the best education systems in the country and that we were nationally known for our public schools and institutions of higher learning.
Sadly, during the last seven years under Branstand/Reynolds, education has been underfunded. But I am convinced that Iowa can be a world-class leader again in education if we make education (kindergarten through college) a priority.
That is why I am supporting Nate Boulton for governor. As a state senator, he has a proven track record of championing education issues so that school districts, community colleges and public universities can thrive instead of struggling to make ends meet.
As a mom of two boys who are products of Iowa City and Cedar Rapids public schools, I'm impressed by how innovative and superb Iowa's teachers are. But seven years of underfunding by Branstad/Reynolds has made it difficult for Iowa to attract new quality educators. For example, in the last legislative session, Republicans gutted teachers' rights to bargain for better wages, earn raises, and receive the benefits they deserve for serving as leaders in building the future for our local communities. As governor, he will ensure Iowa once again values the profession of teaching by fighting to restore teachers' rights and ensuring we have the best and brightest teaching our children.
Join me in supporting Boulton for governor. Together, let's #runwithnate.
