Henry was born in Germany and spent his early years in Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa with B.A. and M.A. degrees in political science and from Yale University with a Ph.D. in economics. He served two years in the U.S. Army as an infantryman, landed at Omaha Beach, and fought all the way to and through the Battle of the Bulge during which time he was wounded and returned to Britain to convalesce.
His career included positions as a university professor, department chair and dean at universities in the United States and abroad. He was also a consultant to domestic and international business corporations and to the U.S. Departments of State, Labor and Defense.
For five years, Henry and his wife, Marjorie, lived in Saudi Arabia, where he established the College of Industrial Management at the King Fadh University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran and served on the committee to plan the infrastructure of the industrial complex at the then-new city of Jubail. He entertained visiting dignitaries, including Prince Phillip.
He wrote eight textbooks with 11 foreign translations and, in his retirement, two non-academic books, "The Wonderful World of Christmas Trees" and "Saudi Arabia: Technocrats in a Traditional Society."
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie; daughter, Patricia (Benjamin) of Mountain View, Calif.; son, Dr. Elliott (Amy) of Atlanta, Ga.; grandson, Sam (Maysha) of Calabasas, Calif,; grandson, Maxwell of Atlanta, Ga.; several stepgrandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
