Third Congressional district headed for nominating convention

The crowded field of candidates vying for the Republican Party nomination for U.S. Representative in the Third Congressional District during Tuesday's Iowa primaries will be heading to the nominating convention on June 14.
A candidate must obtain at least 35 percent of the vote to win.
With 72 percent of precincts reporting, state senator Brad Zaun had secured 29 percent of the vote with 9,530 votes.
Robert Cramer was behind Zaun with 22 percent of the vote, or 7,131 votes. Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz got 19 percent with 6,129 votes
Monte Shaw received 15 percent of the vote, while David Young received 14 percent and Joe Grandanette, former chief of staff to Sen. Chuck Grassley, received 2 percent.
Staci Appel was the only Democrat to run in the primary. Appel got 99.2 percent of the vote, or 7,824 votes.
