Oftedahl, Ervin Merle

Ervin Merle Oftedahl, 88, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Meadow View Memory Care Village, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 805 Hwy 151, Walford. Private family burial: Norway Cemetery, Norway. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Ervin was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Norway, Iowa, to Henry B. and Lillie (Larsen) Oftedahl. On Dec. 27, 1945, he was married to Joanne McKechnie at Trinity Lutheran Church, Norway.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Joanne; daughters, Connie Frame, Cedar Rapids, Diane (Ned) Miller, Cambridge, and Julie Flores, Dysart; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, LeRoy; and four sisters, Alma Thoman, Verda Meyer, LaVerne Oftedahl and Letha Oftedahl.

Ervin was a farmer and electrician and enjoyed piloting his private airplane, earning his pilot's license at age 71.

The family would like to thank the staff at Meadow View for their kindness.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ervin's name.
