Neva Ewald, 98, of Sigourney, died Monday, April 9, 2018, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Burial will be in Garrett Cemetery, Delta. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday and last until the time of the service.

Neva Mary Ewald was born May 23, 1920, in Tilton, Iowa, the daughter of Cloyd and Amy Rose Fisher. She was a 1938 graduate of What Cheer High School. Neva was united in marriage to Ray Alvin Ewald on Oct. 18, 1941, in Kirksville, Mo. The couple lived in North Carolina while Ray was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1945, they returned to the What Cheer area, where they farmed for the next 31 years. Neva was not only a homemaker, she was also a farm wife and most importantly, a mother of five children. Later, she also worked at Kingsberry Manufacturing for 10 years. Neva was a member of the Federated Women's Club of Sigourney and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing, gardening and sewing. Neva was an outstanding cook. No one left her house hungry. She was well respected among her peers and she had a very outgoing personality.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Ewald; a son, LeRoy Ewald; a brother, Virgil Ewald; and three sisters, Dorothy Hymes, Velta McBride and Nettie Fisher.

She is survived by two sons, Ron Ewald of West Branch and Gary Ewald of Marion; two daughters, Linda (Denny) Weber and Nancy (Steve) Quelle, both of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Ewald of Keota; a brother, Junior (Mabel) Fisher of Sigourney; and two sisters, Sharon (Russell) Fogle of Cedar Rapids and Norma Alpers of Gibson. Neva also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and her 13 great-grandchildren.
