Barbara J. Dykhuizen "Sister D.," 76, of Cedar Rapids, died from a rare brain disease at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the New Life Pentecostal Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. Pierre Gibbs, the Rev. James McCoy and Jamie Fisher. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, William Dykhuizen; children, Debbie Chamberlain, Reno (Janet) Faust, Juli Faust, Jody (Pam) Faust and Desiree (Terry) Vik; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry, Harry and Curtis Overly; and special friend, Kim Ross.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Barb was born on July 21, 1938, in Grant, Mich., the daughter of Kenneth Overly and Birdie (Kyle) McNulty. On Dec. 19, 1987, Barb married William Dykhuizen. She worked at Rockwell Collins and also owned the Wapsi Drive Inn and the Copper Kettle, both in Central City.
Barb was a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church.
Barb was a beautiful, strong woman whose life was teaching people about God. She also enjoyed teaching children's Sunday school. She always made people feel comfortable, never knew a stranger and loved people unconditionally.
