MARY SUSAN (DEVORE) CARROLL

Mary Susan (DeVore) Carroll died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, with family by her side.
Mary Sue was born on Jan. 26, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Melvin L. DeVore and Helen Ann (Lahey) DeVore. She has been cremated through Teahen Funeral Home. The family will have a celebration of her life at a later date.
Mary Sue grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from St. Patrick's School. It was here that she met the love of her life,
Joseph M. Carroll, when they both were in third grade. Mary Sue and Joe were married on Nov. 29, 1958, at St. Patrick's Church in Cedar Rapids. Throughout their nearly 40-year marriage, they lived in Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky and Massachusetts. Mary Sue returned to Cedar Rapids after Joe's death in 1998.
Mary Sue is survived by sons, Matt Carroll, Kevin (Denise) Carroll and Brian Carroll; daughters, Kelly (Pete) Gorrell and Julie (Greg) Tiraboschi; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She also is survived by her sister, Julie (Marty) Glauninger; brother, Michael (Deb) DeVore; and sister-in-law, Cooki DeVore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carroll; her parents; sister, Connie Richards; brother, Jim DeVore; sister-in-law, Kathleen Monaghan; and great-grandson, Kaden Carroll.
Mary Sue was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was beautiful, compassionate and witty. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
