Future uncertain for former Hawkeyes Aaron Kampman, Matt Roth with Jacksonville

INDIANAPOLIS - Jacksonville Coach Mike Mularkey praised former Hawkeye Aaron Kampman but stopped short of guaranteeing the former Pro Bowler will return to the Jaguars for the upcoming season.

In fact, Kampman has yet to pass his physical to return.

"I've talked to Aaron a couple of times," said Mularkey, who is entering his first season with Jacksonville, at the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium. "He's really an impressive individual. I've known of Aaron just watching him play, and I've always thought he's one of the guys you've got to worry about wrecking a game. He's come along. He's ahead of progress with where he's at with his rehab, and he's just itching to get back to where he's capable of playing.

"We have to just monitor the health. He's still not passed (his physical)."

Kampman, 32, signed a four-year deal with Jacksonville before the 2010 season. Kampman's 2009 and 2010 seasons ended with ACL tears, one in each knee. He played in only nine games with Green Bay in 2009 and eight with Jacksonville in 2010.

He played in only three games last year but did not start. He has 58 career sacks in 10 seasons with Green Bay and Jacksonville.

Jacksonville also has former Iowa defensive end Matt Roth on its roster, but Mularkey would not commit to him long  term, either. Roth missed time last year with a concussion and is a free agent.

"They're very good players, very good people, they're great for the locker room," Roth said. "We're going through the roster and not making any as of changes yet. We're trying to get our free agents addressed yet. We're going to let some of these guys heal who ended up on IR and some have passed, some have not passed. We're going to address it at some point."

Roth, 29, has played for the Dolphins, Browns and Jaguars in his eight-year NFL career. He has 24 career sacks.
