To the editor:
Sen. Joni Ernst, who campaigned on her knowledge of swine management and who, when given a chance to address the nation, talked of boot waterproofing, has become an instant foreign policy expert. Arm the unelected government of Ukraine. Undermine attempts at avoiding war with Iran. Pledge undying support for the most warlike leader in the history of the State of Israel. Raise the defense budget. Bomb Yemen. Bomb Syria. More arms for the repressive Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (where, as a woman, she could be flogged for driving a car). Arm the military dictators of Egypt.
The $4 trillion that we have spent on Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003 will be a drop in the bucket if she has her way. So what if our schools fall apart and our bridges fall down. Take that money from health care and Social Security and add it to the war budget. Every National Guard unit shall pilot a squadron of drones. What does she care that millions have been killed, wounded and made into refugees by our militarism. She doesn't have to deal with the human tragedies that our actions cause. Perhaps, new senators, like new doctors, should have to swear an oath, 'above all, do no harm”.
