Lorraine Eleanor Bowen, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Northbrook Manor Care, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Patricia Decker, with a visitation one hour before the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Janice Jacoby of Belle Plaine, Gary (Cathy) Bowen of Littleton, Colo., and Michael (Elizabeth) Bowen of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Doris Schuessler of Lone Tree and Joyce
Tuttle of West Branch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Bowen; daughters, Dixie Bowen and Kathy Bowen-Miller; granddaughter, Brandie Bender; sister, Betty Grout; and brother, Wayne Wyjack.
Lorraine was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Martha (Kruegar) Wyjack. She graduated from Iowa City High School in 1942 and went on to Paris
Academy of Cosmetology and graduated in 1943. On Jan. 1, 1943, she married Robert Bowen. He died in 2010.
She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, fishing, boating and wildlife. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. The couple loved spending 42 years at their cabin on Webb Lake, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
