We should support diplomacy with Iran

To the editor:
In November, I was one of more than 430 individuals from 43 states who traveled to Washington, D.C. to learn about the importance of diplomacy with Iran. My biggest take-away: Diplomacy with Iran would make the world safer place.
Retired U.S. and Israeli military leaders emphasized that diplomacy is the best way to guard against a nuclear armed Iran, and that further sanctions imposed by the U.S. would cause another lengthy and costly war in the Middle East.
A group of 10 Iowans took this information into meetings with Congressional staffers, asking our members of Congress to publicly support diplomacy in Iran. Already, some 190 members of Congress have made statements in favor of the ongoing diplomacy with Iran. I hope that Sen. Chuck Grassley, Sen. Joni Ernst and U.S. Rep. Rod Blum will speak out in support of diplomacy with Iran and against new sanctions that could sabotage a final deal.
