Thomas R. Martin, 86, passed away on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Peace Christian Reformed Church in Cedar Rapids.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Memorials, if desired, will be directed to a charity of the family's choice.
Thomas was born on Feb. 16, 1930, to Walter and Hazel Henry Martin in Rockford, Ill. He graduated from Beloit High School in Beloit, Wis., and then entered into the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1950.
In February of 1951, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Chatt in Beloit, Wis.
Tom was employed at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids for 24 years, before retiring in 1991.
Tom loved the outdoors and enjoyed canoeing and camping. He and Yvonne traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He was a talented and skilled craftsman and enjoyed creating sawdust in his workshop. He had a tremendous love for his dogs and a great sense of humor mixed with Irish blarney. Tom had a strong faith and dedication to his church.
Tom will be dearly missed by his wife of 65 years; daughter, Kathy Martin of Greenwood, Calif.; son, Tom Martin of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
