Nov. 19, 2010 3:05 pm
The Iowa city Duals are underway. Coe opened with a 37-6 win over SIU-Edwardsville, while Cornell defeated Iowa Central, 25-15.
Iowa has taken the mat, wrestling Iowa Central. Cornell and SIU-Edwardsville are facing off.
Right now, Matt McDonough is wrestling Brandon Wright and beating him 8-1 with a ton of riding time in the second.
(Just refresh for updates)
McDonough locks up a cradle for NF3 and wins 16-3. Iowa up 4-0 to start.
Now up at 133, Nick Trizzino vs. ICCC's Cordale Risk. Trizzino is wrestling here while it seems Tyler Clark, Tony Ramos and Nate Moore will be heading to Omaha for UNO's Kauffman/Brand Open.
Trizzino fought off a couple Takedown attempts before countering for his own and a 2-0 lead in the first. Trizzino starts second on top and turns Risk for a NF3. He's up, 5-0 with :40 left in second. Trizzino too parallel according to ref and is dinged for stalling. Risk is then nailed shortly after.
Trizzino with another takedown and he's up 7-0.
Brands has a camera right in his face for this meet. It's got to be a pain in the butt. I hate media people. Oh wait...Nevermind. trizzino has over 3:30 in RT.
Trizzino wins 8-0 and Iowa is up 8-0 also.
Mark ballweg comes out and wastes little time against Seth Stender at 141. Ballweg horses him over and puts him to his back. Ballweg gets a pin in 1:22 and Iowa up 14-0.
Dylan Carew gets an early takedown on Joseph Winkler at 149. Carew riding tough. N o movement underneath. He seemed to get an easy takedown. Not sure why he didn't release him. Winkler called for stalling.
Carew leads 2-0 at the end of the first and has 2:47 in RT.
Carew with a reversal. Lead is 4-0 and riding like a horse begins again.
Camera crew is now gone. Not sure if Brands was heavy on the cameraman's head, spun around behind and then pushed them away down the tunnel or they left voluntarily. Will update.
Carew rides him out and leads 4-0 with well over 4 minutes of RT. Carew adds T2 in third, releases WWinkler and gets another T2. RT locked up about an hour ago and major is in hand without some fluke happening.

Kerr fights off a shot by Trushcheff and finall gets his hips around for a T2. Kerr just hangs on after takedown and dinged for stalling.
No new action and Kerr ends first with 2-0 and 56 seconds of RT. Kerr with reversal to go up 4-0 and now has RT in second.

Cornell leads SIU-Edwardsville, 27-0. Not sure what weight.
At 184, Grant Gambrall vs. Bryce Olson.
Olson surprsies Gambrall right away scoring a T2 right away. I think it was a duck but was looking down and it happened real quick. Olson rode Gambrall for about 25 seconds. Grambrall gets out. He responded with his own T2 and now leads 3-2 with 20 seconds left in first.
Gambrall with an escape to go up 4-2, but Olson ties it with a nice shuck/throwby for a T2.

Lofthouse keeps pressure on and and gets a T2. Lofthouse up 7-3 and releases Pica. 7-4.
Lofthouse has Pica scrambling across the mat and goes up 9-4. Bill Roths had enough of Pica not returning to center and dings him for stalling which is a point. Lofthouse adds another T2 and another stall call in the last seconds. Add RT points and Luke Loifthouse wins, 14-5, and Iowa up, 42-0.

McGregor with E1. 3-2 Rasing. RT not a factor. Rasing piles on T2 at the end to win 9-4. IOWA WINS<
We have a break until 6 p.m.
An avid wrestling supporter, Jim Borschel is in attendance today. It doesn't surprise me. Long after Jay was done wrestling at Linn-Mar, Papa Borschel was a regular at Linn-Mar competitions. He is a long-time Hawkeye fan, so being here is a natural. It's still good to see him, though.
An old grade school coach, pat Welsh came down to say hi. I love how wrestling is a catalyst to life-long relationships.
We're ready to start. A good one (on paper) to start. two national champs going at it. Coe's Clayton Rush won the 125-pound title in D-III last year. McDonough, of course, won the 125-pound title in Omaha as a red-shirt freshman.
Rush gets in on a single and after a long battle gets T2. McDonough E1. Rush in deep on another single attempt but no score. At the end of first, 2-1, Rush.

Ballweg looked very good today. How that translates against tougher competition. We'll have to see.
Iowa up 16-0 with Dylan Carew and James Locke going at it at 149.
Carew with a T2. First ends, 2-0, carew with 31 seconds of RT.
Carew with an E1 and that's all the second-periuod scoring. 3-0 Carew. carew adds a T2 and gets Rt for 6-1 win.

leClere is riding and the two scramble, but no points are scored. ref took forever to call a stalemate.
17 seconds left and LeClere needs to ride him out to force OT.
After the restart, Kerr gets reversal and wins, 6-4. Iowa up, 26-0.

By the way, they say 5,584 are here. Unless someone has a couple thousand stuffed in their pockets I don't see it.
Gambrall adds two more T2 and a NF3 with RT point and wins 13-3. Iowa leads, 36-0.
At 197, Luke Lofthouse vs. Stuart Maddox. Lofthouse steamrolling through Maddox. Up 9-2 after first with three T2 and a NF3. He has 2:11 in RT as well.
Lofthouse going down to start 2nd. Lofthouse continues to romp. Up 17-3 with 20 seconds left. He's got RT so he's got a tech. Lofthouse finishes it off with a T2 in third to win 20-3, needing only 5:27 to do it.
Iowa leads, 41-0.
Rasing takes on Alex Burkle at heavyweight to close the night. I have to say I'm pleased with what I've seen from Iowa, except for a couple matches. Again, really hard to tell considering they're wrestling a D3 contedner and a top NJCAA school.
Rasing and Burkle scoreless aftrer 1.
Rasing goes up 1-0 with escape in second. Second period ends, 1-0.
Burkle down to start third.
Rasing rides Burkle for most of the period, getting riding time before Burkle escapes. Rasing wins, 2-1 with RT. Hawks win, 44-0, and sweep all 20 matches tonight.
