HUGH TASKER
Burlington
Hugh Neil Tasker, 71, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at his home. Hugh would give you the shirt off his back or the car in his driveway. He was a hero to his family and served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968 in the U.S. Army. He was a very proud veteran and strived to provide for his family during his life.
Hugh was born on May 7, 1947, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Paul Waggy Tasker and Emma Beatrice Jones Tasker. Hugh married Kay Ellen Davis on July 4, 1970. They were married for 21 years and were blessed with two daughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Ellen Tasker; son, Robert Niebuhr; and his parents.
Hugh farmed on the family's Century Farm for over 10 years before beginning a career as a commercial truck driver. Trucking took him far from home and the family he loved, regrettably more often than he wanted.
Hugh had a second chance with love when he met Mary Joann Niebuhr. They were married on June 11, 1994. Mary joined Hugh on his cross-country truck-driving journeys. Hugh treated Mary's four sons as his own. He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Jeff) Buresh and Nancy (Kenny) Davis; his brother, Henry Tasker; his sister, Anne Stender; sons, Ronald (Carla) Niebuhr, Roger (Melissa) Niebuhr and Rory (Heather) Niebuhr; and five grandchildren, Tyler Buresh, Dennis and Dylan Davis and Rylie and Peyton Niebuhr.
The family will receive friends and family from 4 to
6 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home on Division Street, Burlington, Iowa. Donations may be made to the Wyoming Food Bank in lieu of flowers.
The graveside service will be at the Cady Cemetery in Wyoming, Iowa, at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14. Karmen Jamison will be providing prayers and blessings. Military honor guard will be present.
Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
