Lyle D. Weldon, 80, passed away Monday. Jan. 26, 2015, in the comfort of his home after a long battle
with cancer.
Lyle was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, to
Mildred and James Weldon. He married Doris Ann Hilton on Dec. 8, 1957, in Vinton.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris; two sons, Bill Parks and Dick Weldon; two daughters, Linda (Norman) Chesmore and Sue (Dennis) Lang; four granddaughters; a great- grandson; two brothers, Edwin and Dan Walters; and many nieces and nephews.
Lyle was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on Nov. 24, 1978. Employed by the city of Coggon over 17 1/2 years, he then worked as a self-employed handyman. Lyle was a self-taught man who could fix or build anything.
He enjoyed playing cards with friends, had a good sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 7121 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, with Dan Paxton officiating.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Nabi and all the Hospice of Mercy staff for their care and concern during Lyle's illness.
