Cedar Rapids man charged with sexually abusing a minor over five-year span

CEDAR RAPIDS - A 29-year-old Cedar Rapids man is charged with sexually abusing a girl for five years, from the time she was 9 years old, according to a criminal complaint.

Juan Renteria was charged Friday with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and four charges of third-degree sexual abuse. Renteria is accused of sexually abusing the child on numerous occasions from 2011 through Jan. 8, 2015, according to a criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, the girl described the abuse and when it occurred to investigators. The girl told them the abuse occurred at two different residences in Cedar Rapids and one in Marion.

Renteria admitted during a police interview that he may have recently had sex with the girl, but he was too intoxicated to remember, according to the complaint.
