A trucking industry association says a bill awaiting President Obama's signature will improve job opportunities for returning vets who want to be truck drivers.
The Military Commercial Drivers License Act of 2012 will allow uniformed service members to obtain their commercial driver's license at locations where they are stationed rather than waiting to return to their home states.
American Trucking Association President Bill Graves said the industry is seeing the beginnings of a driver shortage and increasing freight demand, as well as demographic shifts affecting the supply of drivers.
"Making it easier for veterans to move into these jobs is a good thing for the military, for the veterans themselves and for our industry," he said.
