Raymond D. Novey, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Father Mark Ressler. A vigil and rosary service will take place at
4 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will
receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment with military honors will take place at St. John's Cemetery.
Raymond was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., to Henry M. and Marie B. (Zacerias) Novey. He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and spent two years stationed in Okinawa. Raymond was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Novak on May 2, 1959, in Cedar Rapids.
He was employed by Quaker Oats and then later at Collins Radio as a test technician, until his retirement in 1989. Raymond was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a master gardener who enjoyed beekeeping and hobby farming. He was a member of the Good Earth Garden Club. Raymond also loved listening to gospel music and the Hee Haw show.
He is survived by daughters, Karen Holliday and Cheryl Busbee, both of Cedar Rapids; sons, Stephen (Carol) Novey of Central City and Brian (Donna) Novey of Martelle; five grandchildren, Adam, Camie, Jenny, Greg and McKenna; 11 stepgrandchildren; 26 stepgreat-grandchildren; 25 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and an uncle, Lawrence (Joan) Novey of Prairie du Chien, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara in 2013; brother, Kenneth Novey; and sister-in-law, Bea Novey; and son-in-law, Dale Holliday.
