Laurie Ann Hathaway, 58, of Coralville, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 805 Highway 151 W, Walford, IA 52351, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville, IA 52241.
Laurie was born July 24, 1957, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Arla (Yarwood) Nesheim. She graduated from AIB in Des Moines with an associate's degree. Laurie was united in marriage to Marty Hathaway on Sept. 24, 1988, in Iowa City. She was an account clerk for the University of Iowa Residential Housing Department from 1981 to 2016. Laurie was a member of AFSCME and was instrumental in organizing equal rights for women union employees. That is where she met her husband. Laurie was also a member of Chrome Divas. Many would describe Laurie as a force to be reckoned with.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Marty; four siblings, Steve Nesheim of Newhall, Iowa, Barb Nesheim of Minneapolis, Minn., Gary Nesheim of Vinton, Iowa, and Karen Nesheim of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Greg Mullenberg of Des Moines; and three nieces and nephews, Harold, Jimmy and Nicole Hathaway of Patterson, Iowa. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Julie Mullenberg.
