Kathryn Marie Cassidy, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed of natural causes on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Hiawatha Care Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
Kathryn was born on March 18, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Andrew and Lenore Charipar. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1950 and married the love of her life the next day. Kathryn was a devoted wife for 71 years to Milo (Pete) Wensel Cassidy. Kathryn worked at Sears for 30 years. Pete and Kathy owned and operated Van Horne bowling alley for three years and C & C Masonry for 10 years. Upon retirement they moved to Yuma, Ariz., and later to Tucson. In January 2020, they moved back to Iowa to spend their final years with family.
Kathryn loved to travel, bowl, play bridge, Tom Brady, sing, dance and spend time in the sun. She was proud to sing with Sweet Adelines at Carnegie Hall, New York. Kathy was active in the red hat society in Arizona. Her best days were spent with Pete and family.
Kathy is survived and lovingly remembered by her two children, John (Michelle) Cassidy and Terri Cahill; four grandchildren, Jason Cassidy of Lincoln, Neb., Jessica Troyna of Waverly, Sam and Sarah Fett, both of Cedar Rapids, and Bradey Adams; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Chloe, Treymier, Whitney, Cooper, Laila, Wyatt and Declan; sister, Connie of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Bill (Amy) of Jacksonville, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carolyn.
