Joseph "Joe" Acker Sr., 69, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, April 5, 2021, from complications following an illness. Private family services will be held. All invited guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Joe was born Sept. 2, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Robert and Geraldine (Kies) Acker. He attended Davenport Assumption High School and went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1978. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1974 during the Vietnam Era. He worked for Rockwell International for 32 years until his retirement. Joe loved dogs, especially his companions: Mia, Layla and Kobi. He loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his daughter, Maggie (Russ) Johnson of Fairfax, Iowa; son, Jeff Acker of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Quinn and Kellen Johnson, both of Fairfax; and siblings, Bob Acker Jr., Barb Schmicher, Marge Streitferdt, Julie Willman, Janet Eppard, Cathy Jasper and Sue Defrieze.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Geraldine Acker; and son, Joe(y) Acker Jr.
