Iowa City police say man was driving drunk around Kum & Go parking lot

Jan. 20, 2012 10:26 am
An Iowa City man is facing his second OWI charge after police Thursday afternoon caught him driving “in a confused manner” in a Kum & Go parking lot and found him to have a .359 blood alcohol concentration.
Witnesses called police about a man “possibly suffering a medical condition inside of his vehicle” just before 3 p.m. Thursday at the Kum & Go at 513 S. Riverside Drive in Iowa City. Officers stopped Matthew White, 22, and determined that he was under the influence of alcohol, according to a police complaint.
Officers at the scene determined White had a blood alcohol concentration of .359, which is high enough to cause death in some cases, according to medical experts.
White was unable to complete the roadside maneuvers and was arrested on suspicion of a second operating while intoxicated offense. He was last convicted of an OWI in 2007, according to police.
He remained at the Johnson County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond Friday afternoon.
