Franzenburg, Genevieve Monroe
Genevieve Monroe Franzenburg, 96, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, with the Rev. Richard Osslund officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Genevieve was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Elberon, to Guy and Myrtle (Kinner) Monroe. On Nov. 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to George Franzenburg in Traer. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Genevieve was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, where she enjoyed membership in the LWML. She had also been a member of the Kane Homemakers and served as a 4-H leader.
She is survived by her children, Gregory (Cathy) Franzenburg of Keystone and Nancy Franzenburg of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Elysha (Casey) Goodgion of Superior, Colo., Geoff (Christy) Franzenburg of Cedar Rapids and Tyler Franzenburg of Keystone; five great-grandchildren, Cassidi, Abbi, Faith and Ashleigh Goodgion and Lydia Franzenburg; her sister, Ruth Davis of Naples, Fla.; and her brother, Murray (Darlene) Monroe of Traer.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John Franzenburg in 1971; three sisters and five brothers.
