Pingel, Lillian Frances
Lillian Frances Pingel, 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone after an extended illness from complications of arteritis. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, with the Rev. B. Andrew Wright officiating. Interment will be held at Irving Cemetery near Belle Plaine. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday.
Lillian was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Kane Township of Benton County, to John H. and Caroline (Koelle) Pingel. She attended Kane No. 8 country school and Lutheran Parochial School in Keystone. After graduation from Keystone High School in 1945, she worked on the farm and did housework for several families. In 1954, she moved to Keystone and for 17 years, she traveled to Cedar Rapids to work for St. Luke's Hospital in the housekeeping department.
She faithfully cared with concern for her parents and her brother. She also willingly cared for others when she was needed. She was baptized, confirmed, and was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. Lillian was a devoted member of the Dorcas Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo and Cubs baseball.
As a resident of Keystone Nursing Care Center, Lillian received the utmost wonderful care and services by all staff, volunteers and her doctor. She greatly appreciated the hospice care teams, namely Compassus for their loyalty and wonderful assistance and concern in a warm friendly way. Sincere thanks to St. John Lutheran Church family and friends during Lillian's illness.
Lillian is survived by her sister, Irene Haerther of Cedar Rapids; and nine nephews and seven nieces and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rudy Pingel; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Howard Hinrichs, Frieda and Waldo Holst and Helen and Doug Preston; and brother-in-law, Les Haerther.
A memorial fund has been established.
Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone is in charge of arrangements.
