Linn-Mar initiative worthy of support

The configuration of more than two dozen country schools that consolidated to form Linn-Mar years ago had two advantages. They could build a school of excellence from scratch and look forward to relatively boundless growth because of their geography. Both have been accomplished.
A strong post-flood economy has helped Linn-Mar grow substantially in most categories of housing and every income bracket. Because we are a primarily residential tax-fueled district, no question in Iowa terms our levy is not low, and yet, this seems a valuable investment in the youth, children and families of our community, and I am willing to pay for it.
I advocate your yes vote, even though my children long ago graduated. I advocate your yes vote knowing some of you feel the significant updates to the athletic facilities are unnecessary or poorly timed.
Could district officials have predicted the growth Marion has experienced? To a degree, yes. Did many of us older than 50 expect so many young families to choose condos and townhomes that can house multiple families in the real estate that used to host a traditional home? Doubtful.
Linn-Mar has fine teachers and administrators, and a wonderful academic record. I will vote to extend that in this bond issue. While it is neither insufferable or abusive to put students in mobile classrooms, there is a much better academic environment within our reach and we should provide it. I encourage you to reach for it, please vote yes on Sept. 11.
