Hellwig, Roland A.
Roland A. Hellwig, 95, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at the Keystone Care Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, where friends may register from 2 p.m. until service time. The Rev. Dr. James Eggert will officiate. Private committal services will be at the Keystone Cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone is in charge of arrangements.
Roland was born April 9, 1914, at Keystone, to Paul and Lizzie (Hennings) Hellwig, and graduated from Keystone High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Following graduation from Iowa State Teachers College he taught and coached in the Jordan schools. On Aug. 29, 1942, he married Miriam Scott at Boone, Iowa. For 24 years he served as president of the Keystone Savings Bank. He had been active in his community and was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam of Keystone; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank; and sisters, Esther Hellwig and Ruth Condon.
His family expresses special thanks for the wonderful care Roland received at the Keystone Care Center.
