WAYLAND - Good deeds might earn individuals in Wayland a dog tag from police chief Ron Roth.
Two weeks ago, Roth started awarding dog tags which read 'junior police officer” to young kids he notices doing possitive things in town. He mentioned this in Wendesday's city council meeting.
'I see them doing something - like picking up trash in the park and I hand them out,” he said. 'This program works, it really does, for the little ones; I tell them I will take them away if I have to, and I haven't had to take any away yet.”
In other matters Wednesday, Treasurer Terry Kaufman reported that the city spent $8,000 more than they took in last month. This was the result of a 20-year-old loan taken out for sewer improvement, which the city paid off earlier than needed to avoid interest.
Lastly on Wednesday, the council unanimously approved for the mayor to sign a grant EHCCF $5,000 grant for holiday decorations and plan to have some fresh wreaths on Main St, for the season next year. City Clerk Beverly Conrad also reminded the council she will be representing the city in Mt. Pleasant's holiday parade on Thursday, Dec. 6.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Wayland City Hall.
