Carver, Barbara I.
Barbara I. Carver, 68, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, died following a long illness on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Ken Graham. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Carver of Cedar Rapids; children, Cary (Deb) Carver of Martelle, and Cristin (Kevin) Karr of Center Point; four grandchildren, Justin and Sara Carver, and Grady and Maddie Karr; and eight brothers and sisters, Violet (Ray) Haars of Marion, Velma (Vernon) Roseberry of Center Point, Bob (Virginia) Benson of Center Point, Helen (Ed) Wall of Richardson, Texas, Anna Mae Comried of Plano, Texas, Pat Sherman of Center Point, Bill (Robin) Benson of Shellsburg, and Kenny (Pat) Benson of Middletown, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Barb was born Dec. 10, 1941, in Center Point, the daughter of Doyle and Vera (Spence) Benson. After high school, Barb attended beauty school. She was married to Wayne Carver on Feb. 4, 1961, in Center Point. Barb worked for LeFebure Corp. in Cedar Rapids, as their office manager of contracts, retiring after 22 years.
Barb loved to bowl and golf, as well as attend auctions, and collect antiques and Amish items. She also liked Longerberger Baskets. She loved to play Nertz and was a member of the 500 card club. Barb was also the program director for the “Minnesota Family.”
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association of East Central Iowa at 1570 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402; or the Hiawatha Care Center at 405 N. 15th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233, in Barb's name.
