Coonrod, Bernita Tull

Bernita Tull Coonrod, 93, of Center Point, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at Center Point Road Church of Christ, Toddville, by David Graham. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Sandie) Tull of Center Point; stepchildren, Marlys Tritle of Albert Lea, Minn., Larry (Betty) Coonrod of Mesa, Ariz., and Donald (Barb) Coonrod of Springville; two grandchildren, Valerie (Kim) Sleege of Center Point and Vicki (Jon) Rathje of Marion; several stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Andrew, Julia, Carl and Aaron; a nephew, Richard (Jan) Oliphant of Indian Wells, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Berry of Burnsville, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands and one brother, Lloyd Oliphant.

Bernita was born Feb. 13, 1916, in rural Toddville, the daughter of Wesley and Grace (Mounce) Oliphant. She graduated from Toddville High School in 1933. Bernita married Clifford Tull in 1938 in Toddville. She and Clifford owned and operated the Midway General Store for several years. Clifford died in 1948. She then married Ivan Coonrod in 1951 in Iowa City. Together, they owned and operated Hendryx Motors in Center Point for 17 years. She was an avid bowler and golfer, and was active in many leagues over the years. Bernita was a member of the Center Point Road Church of Christ.

A memorial fund has been established in Bernita's memory.
